自己紹介
Hello everyone, I am Suzanne Jensen. I was born in the United States but went to Canada as a university student and never went back to the U.S. I became a Canadian citizen and stayed in Canada until I came to Japan in 1992. I am delighted to be teaching English majors at Takushoku. I was an English major too, once (a long time ago), and have many happy memories of those days. The main reason I loved English was that I got to read so many wonderful books for my courses. Reading is still one of my favorite past times, and I’d like to encourage all of you to read as much as possible, too; it’s the best way to improve all your language skills. I have a good library of graded readers, so please come and visit and borrow a book or two.
Besides reading, I love cycling. My first big cycling trip was in the Canadian Rockies, and I have taken several long cycling trips in Japan as well. I also enjoy gardening and photography, and 3-1/2 years ago I started taking lessons in Japanese calligraphy (書道).
科目紹介
Welcome to my classes! I teach two classes of Speaking/Writing (説明発表), which meet 3 times a week. The goals of the class are: to make you fluent and confident speakers; and to introduce the basics of English writing. Your attendance and participation in class will be very important, so please come on time and be prepared with textbooks, notebooks, and a positive attitude. I also teach 3 electives: Reading, English Workshop A/B, and English Workshop C/D. In the reading class we read stories and discuss them in small circles, and do lots of extensive reading outside of class. In workshop A/B we also look at the dramatic possibilities in readings; and in workshop C/D we discuss current “hot” topics and do special projects on the topics. In these classes, attendance and participation will also be important for your grade and for the success of the class. I hope you will find the courses both challenging and enjoyable!
