自己紹介

Hello, I'm English. I've lived in Tokyo for eight years. My interests are reading, writing, travelling to foreign countries, hiking in mountains, swimming and snorkelling, playing tennis, and just meeting people. My specialism is linguistics and within that field lexicography. Recently, a dictionary I've been working on for a very long time was published - Kodansha's Communicative English-Japanese Dictionary. It's intended for foreigners studying Japanese, but you might find it useful too. I'm now working on a book about language.

科目紹介

「3・４年ゼミナール」
I intend to make my courses enjoyable and informative. I hope to help students improve their listening and speaking skills in English and to introduce them to British culture through reading and video materials. My seminar classes will focus on speaking, listening, and writing skills. Occasionally, students will be asked to give a presentation. Classes with 30 students or more will concentrate on listening, reading, and pronunciation skills. I strongly advise students to have a positive attitude toward their studies - if there's something you don't understand, ask and find out. Learning to speak a foreign language means you have to open your mouth, so participate fully when you practise conversation with other students.
