Workshop for Students of the Doctoral Program
Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies (GSICS)
Takushoku University

On Saturday, October 19, 2019, when the university's Bunkyo campus was busy with visitors to enjoy the annual Koryosai festival, an inhouse workshop for students of the Doctoral Program of the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies (GSICS) was held at Building D.
This time, six doctoral students who are enrolled in GSICS's International Development Course were given a chance to present their studies on such versatile issues as community development project in Nepal, infrastructure development in developing countries, and food safety problem in China, to name a few.
Meanwhile, five students enrolled in the Security Studies Course presented respective studies on such issues as multilateral coercive diplomacy and non-nuclear agreement, relations between the military administration and military operations of the Imperial Japanese Army in the southern territories, and China's pursuit of core interests and its aims. One of the five, who currently resides in the United States, made her presentation via Skype.
At GSICS, presentation at this workshop is one of the requirements for submission of doctoral dissertation. Thus, all the students take this workshop very seriously, earnestly responding to relentless comments and challenging questions from faculty members, fellow students, and predecessor graduates of the program.

GSICS participated in the Koryosai festival through presentation of posters depicting outcome of each student's study under the title of "Frontier of Asian Studies." Each student of the program, from freshman who has just been enrolled in April through those in the final stage of the program, contributed a visual presentation of respective research endeavor.

Established in April 2004, GSICS has granted master's degree to over 300 students to date. It has granted doctor's degree to 36 individuals since the first awardee in 2010.
