赤瀬さんは、現在、高専の英語教育に携わりながら本研究科に通っています。研究では、学習者の語彙習得過程を高度な統計手法を使用して経年的に明らかにしています。今回掲載された学術誌Language Testing in AsiaのHPには、"Language Testing in Asia (LTA) is a high quality peer-review online academic journal."（質の高い査読つきオンライン学術誌）と記されています。この学術誌は、外国語能力の測定と評価の研究分野において権威のあるオープンアクセスジャーナルです。論文は高い専門性を有する複数の研究者によって厳正な査読を経た後、見事に受理され、インターネット上で公開されました。
This study uses Rasch measurement theory to further validate and systematically link three forms of a vocabulary size test created by Aizawa and Mochizuki (2010). The study illustrates a method for creating a reliable measure of growth in vocabulary size over an extended period of time and provides insight into the relationships among word frequency, word difficulty, and progress in vocabulary learning.
Feelings When the Publication was Accepted:
I feel honored that my paper was accepted for publication in Language Testing in Asia. This precious experience motivates me to persevere with my studies in order to complete a dissertation that contributes to both theoretical understanding and pedagogical practice in vocabulary learning. I believe a large part of my success is due to being able to clarify my research topic and analyze my data with the most up-to-date statistical procedures under the guidance of my supervisor, Dr. James Sick, who always makes me aware that there is room for improvement.
Comments from the Advisor:
When Mr. Akase applied to enter the PhD in English Education program at Takushoku University, I was impressed that he had already collected three years of data related to vocabulary size, learning strategies, and motivation. However, I also realized that analysis of longitudinal data requires some rather advanced statistical techniques, and I warned him that he would need to study very hard to complete his dissertation. I felt quite proud when he completed the first phase of his research and was able to publish the results in a well-known international journal.
