【School of Bekka, Intensive Japanese Language Program】2020 Fall Semester Activity Report 3: A Bekka student won a prize in " Shinpei Goto and Inazo Nitobe Memorial, The 22nd National Essay Contest for High School and International Students 2020"

Takushoku University holds the "National Essay Contest for High School and International Students" every year, inheriting the spirit of Shinpei Goto (the third president) and Inazo Nitobe (the second superintendent), who wished for international understanding and world peace. The theme for the 22nd contest was "Welcome to Japan, Hello Japan," with a focus on the SDGs. A total of 2,497 high school and international students from all over Japan entered the contest. In the Bekka program, Bekka students at the intermediate to advanced level of Japanese, aiming to pass JLPT Level 2 or higher, apply for the contest every year as part of their classes. This year, Ms. YE LI (from China) won the prize for her essay: SDGs as seen from the perspective of "Gentlemen are peaceful but different". It seems that the process of writing the essay itself is a great opportunity for the students to learn Japanese. The following is the impression of the prize winner, Ms. YE LI.

The content of my essay is about partnerships in the SDGs. I believe that partnerships are essential to our personal daily lives as well as to the international economy and trade. Particularly for us as international students, I believe that the notion will be useful for international exchange and cooperation. When I wrote this essay, my Japanese language skills were still in the lower intermediate level. At that time, the most difficult thing for me was to distinguish between spoken and written Japanese. I really had a hard time choosing between the words I usually use when talking to my friends and the words I use in letters, emails, and papers. Finally, I finished writing my essay.
