On Friday, September 18, the Bekka Japanese Language Program held a "Rakugo Viewing and Short Story Presentation" as part of its Japanese cultural experience learning activities in Gotō Shinpei and Nitobe Inazō Memorial Auditorium (Room E101) at the Bunkyō Campus of Takushoku University (Tokyo).

Nine volunteer Bekka students, dressed in yukata and seated on a zabuton cushion, presented short stories in Japanese. Afterward, the program director, SANO Masatoshi, performed a magic show as the opening act. Finally, Rakugo performance "Okiku no Sara" was conducted by Master Ryūtei Saryū.

The Bekka students were able to directly appreciate the unique artistic elements of the Japanese language--not only the content of the stories but also the intonation, pauses, and gestures. In addition to the Bekka students, graduates of the Bekka who are currently enrolled at Takushoku University and Bekka student assistants also participated in these activities. The participants seemed to enjoy a fulfilling learning experience with smiles on their faces.

*Bekka Student Assistants are Takushoku University undergraduate students who interact with Bekka students by assisting class teachers and Bekka students during class seminars and events held every Thursday. (Official volunteer activities of the Bekka, Takushoku University)
