2024 Bekka SA Volunteer Certificate Ceremony Held

掲載日:2025年02月12日

On Thursday, January 23, 2025, the Bekka, Intensive Japanese Language Program, held a Volunteer Certificate Ceremony for its Student Assistants (SA) at the Bunkyo Campus in Tokyo. The SAs, an official volunteer group of current Takushoku University students, support the Bekka students who come from around the world (12 countries in total for the 2024 academic year). From April in 2024 to March in 2025, the SAs assist with class seminars on Thursdays, accompany the Bekka students on extracurricular day trips and overnight study tours, and participate in Japanese cultural activities. At the end of the academic year, they also plan and organize class exchange events. For the 2024 academic year, 12 SAs received their volunteer certificates from the dean of the Bekka. Through their interactions with the Bekka students, the SAs can gain first-hand experience of global cultures without leaving Japan, while the Bekka students can learn about the latest aspects of Japanese culture by interacting with current Takushoku University students of the same age. The unique Bekka SA organization provides a valuable opportunity for intercultural experiential learning between Bekka SAs and Bekka students.

Mx. WATANABE Taiyo, the leader of the 2024 Bekka SAs (Japan, 2nd year, Department of International Business), reflects on the activities as follows.
"Through my experience in the Bekka SAs activities, I learned how to express my thoughts effectively in Japanese by experimenting with different ways to convey what I wanted to say. Interacting with the Bekka students also gave me new insights, such as how religious beliefs influence their dietary and daily habits, which I noticed even when sharing meals together. Majoring in intercultural communication, I would like to deepen my understanding of how to overcome challenges when messages do not get across clearly to Bekka students. If you are interested in making more international friends or communicating with them, I highly encourage you to try joining the Bekka SAs. I know many people may feel too busy with their classes, but you might be surprised at how manageable it actually is once you give it a try!"
